japanese elegance and straw

Have you ever heard of Yakult?

For those of you who don't know what it is, it is "a probiotic milk-like drink" (according to wikipedia), and is supposed to be good for your stomach.

Back in 2003, when Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (known as SARS) was a major pandemic, there was a rumor in Hong Kong that Yakult is good for preventing the infection. (There was not evidence to support its validity.)
Yakult is sold in many counties, and Japanese one usually packaged 5 bottles in one. Each bottle is 65ml, (1/5 of a conventional soda can) and the top is covered with a aluminum sealing.

If you chug it by peeling the sealing, it takes only 3 seconds to finish it.

But Japan is a land of elegance. Some people may think that chugging is a rude behavior. Solution? Straws are also enclosed in a package -- not only 1, but 5 straws for 5 bottles.

With a straw, it takes 15 seconds to finish up a bottle. But in order to maintain her/his chic status, that's something she/he needs to endure.
